Eric Torrence- "New Realities in Community and Commitment"
Adjusting small groups to a subscription-based culture

Over the past year, Chase Oaks Church has been re-evaluating the way they do groups ministry and researching how other churches are responding to recent trends. What they’ve discovered has re-affirmed a passion for small groups – they’ve never been more vital to the mission of the church. But they’ve also learned that changes are needed in order to help people commit to community. “Doing Life Together” may not be the motivator it once was. Let’s discuss together trends we’re seeing and how to help people find helpful friendships in a culture struggling through a loneliness epidemic.

Eric is Groups Pastor at Chase Oaks Church, a multi-site church in Texas. He leads the strategy and resourcing around adult ministries, groups, and discipleship. Originally from Southern California, Eric moved out to Dallas in 2006 to attend Dallas Theological Seminary, where he earned a Masters in Theology. He is married to his wonderful wife, Amy, who he met while they were both at UCLA through Campus Crusade for Christ, and they now have three kids under the age of six, so they need lots of prayer!
